Titanic proudly offers the latest in communication technology. While Samuel Morse's code had been in use for about 60 years, Guglielmo Marconi's radio set was the first to transmit and receive signals wirelessly.
ADD A COMMENT and share, from the perspective of your persona as a passenger, how this technology might impact your sailing. COMPOSE A MESSAGE to send back to Europe or on to America about your voyage and/or impending arrival in New York. There are 20 shillings per pound, and 1 shilling is 12 pennies. Currently (July 2014), one pound British Sterling is equivalent to $1.71 in U.S. dollars. Consider which passengers could afford this expense. OR Reflect on the impact of superstitions of sailors.

Today, Mother allowed me to use the little money that we brought on board to send a telegram to Uncle Fredrick. Andrew and I decided what to say, and how to say it all in 10 words. Andrew and I aren't experts at Morse code, but I think we did pretty good. It is so exciting to send a telegram. This is only the third one I've sent. I hope it reaches Uncle Fredrick on time.
