Sadly, we didn't get any pictures of your flotation devices! (I don't have a smartphone either..., so I don't even have an Instagram account) If you haven't destroyed yours into the recycle bin yet, and if you can snap a photo, please email me at [email protected], and I will post the picture! Thanks for a great week!

Since you have now found the box containing your TRUE story (of the chosen persona for the week) and discovered your fate, write a reflection of your experiences onboard the Titanic. (Remember to use your fake name when labeling your post, but you may use the person's real name inside your post.)
You may choose to write an additional post to reflect on your learning during camp, and for those posts you may use your own REAL name. Please ADD your link/URL for us to view your THINGLINK virtual museum exhibit. This will allow other participants to see your work, and your camp facilitators can, too! "Ignorance is bliss" is a common phrase. "Bliss" means a state of extreme happiness. The passengers of the Titanic were completely unaware of the impending threat that lay ahead in the ocean water. They happily wrote post cards and sent Morse code messages to friends, associates, and family while they moved at 21 mph toward their unplanned meeting with an iceberg.
Eyewitnesses reported the drastic change in temperature and the beauty of the crisp, clear night. Many remarked that they had never seen so many stars. As they neared the fateful hour of 11:40 pm, many had retired for the night; some were just turning in; and others were still visiting with friend in the public areas. From the persona of your passenger, discuss the events of the evening (including the impact -- as if you would have had time to write a reflection while the ship was sinking). Consider your age, your gender, and your cabin class. Predict whether you will survive the disaster. If you would like to post any other reflections of the day's activities during camp, feel free to post under your real name. Titanic proudly offers the latest in communication technology. While Samuel Morse's code had been in use for about 60 years, Guglielmo Marconi's radio set was the first to transmit and receive signals wirelessly.
ADD A COMMENT and share, from the perspective of your persona as a passenger, how this technology might impact your sailing. COMPOSE A MESSAGE to send back to Europe or on to America about your voyage and/or impending arrival in New York. There are 20 shillings per pound, and 1 shilling is 12 pennies. Currently (July 2014), one pound British Sterling is equivalent to $1.71 in U.S. dollars. Consider which passengers could afford this expense. OR Reflect on the impact of superstitions of sailors. Welcome aboard! ADD A COMMENT to this post.
What are your reactions to your first day onboard? Reply from the perspective of your selected persona. Share the experiences that person would have had. Use first person pronouns and speak as if it is 1912. You have just boarded the largest man-made vessel. Its luxury is unsurpassed, and this is the maiden voyage. If you would like to speak about today's adventures at camp, feel free to ADD A COMMENT, but use your real name if you are speaking in 2014. |
